There is a wide range of careers for today's ambitious young wolfhound to choose from.
If your youngster doesn't know what he wants to do when he grows up, we'd like to suggest a few options he might consider.
For the academically gifted hound, the professions offer secure prospects and
the sort of salaries that mean he'll never have to worry where the next bone comes from.
Super-fit, outdoor types may prefer the challenge
of pushing their bodies to the limit.
The less academically inclined may be happier carrying out manual work.
For the extrovert hound who is a bit of a showman, a life in the entertainment industry
could be considered, with the lure of celebrity status and perhaps an appearance in 'Dogs Today'.
"I just can't face another Monday morning at the office!"
Fitness Instructor
Darcy shows no mercy -
". . . and it's roll . . and stretch . . and clench those buttocks!"
Chef
The master chef, Chewbacca, and his assistant, Darcy,
check out the ingredients - "easy on the greens please!"
Illusionist
Darcy demonstrates her skill at sleight-of-mouth -
now you see it, now you don't!
Tree Surgeon
No, McGinty - being a tree surgeon does not mean you get
first pick of the cats stuck up them.
Like sorcerers, tree surgeons have their apprentices . . .
The wolfhound's reputation for gentleness is well deserved, and makes him
eminently suitable for a career in one of the caring professions.
Dentist
Darcy gives her sister Siofra's teeth a thorough examination -
more flossing required . . .
and Branigan demonstrates the technique.
Paediatric Nurse
Darcy administers therapeutic kisses.
There will, of course, always be those who, for one reason or another, are unemployable.
And a word of caution - in today's difficult social climate, many a young wolfhound has come to grief by hanging out with bad company (particularly dobes and Jack Russells).
Wolfhounds have such a natural sense of humour that being a comedian hardly qualifies as a job - it's more an attitude.
Here, Branigan, who was our pack joker par excellence, demonstrates some of the various genres of comedy at which he excelled.
