Harley from Australia
David and Liz Meffan of Gold Coast acquired Harley from the pound after he was found dumped in Brisbane. He was extremely sick when they chose him, although actually it was Lily, their dobermann X kelpie who chose him!

Although David and Liz had been heavily involved with dogs and training for many years, Harley was a big challenge. Initially, he was a very sick boy but with the right medications, diet and lots of smooches he is now fully restored to health, and in his first three months with them he gained over 30kg.

The Meffanns have even moved house, buying a larger property to accommodate him - and boy does he love it! The new property has blueberry bushes which are constantly consumed by the big boy!

His life is totally stressless now and he just loves being part of the family.
"Thanks for choosing me, Lily . . .
. . .this sure beats the city pound!"

"I love living here on the mountain as I am king of the castle and king of the street ! We can see everything that goes on but most of the time we just lay back and watch the birds fly by.

Last week I had to go to visit the vet (don't like going there really!!) but it was time for my first annual check up, needles etc. I have been declared the largest dog on the mountain weighing in at 55kgs and standing at 36 inches at the shoulders. Wow! What a far cry from a year ago when mum and dad found me in a starving and sick state. The vet was very impressed and said I was in top condition, good coat, teeth and heart - but I was not impressed when he had to take my temperature!!! I was a big sook really but wherever I go my best mate Lily comes too, so having her around makes me feel a bit better."

Harley writes (though we think his mum may have helped him a bit):
"Life is still very good here with my friend Lily and my mum and dad. Mum is still a good cook and Dad is my mate, especially at the beach and on the bed, where I make myself extremely comfortable!

I am really looking forward to Xmas as I have discovered a new skill of unwrapping presents. I know Mum has been to see Santa for us and has something hidden in the cupboard - because I can smell it!!

To my fellow wolfhounds and owners everywhere, we wish you a safe and Merry Christmas from the sun and surf on the Gold Coast in Australia!"
