Mt Carmel wolfhounds from Arkansas
January 2005 ~ Glenn Rose Dog Show, Texas
Teresa writes, 'My sister, Lisa, had wanted to show one of my hounds for some time, and unaware that this show was a major in points, we did some training in conformation and ring etiquette. However, like many first-timers, when Lisa got in the ring with Shay she forgot everything she had learned - she didn't stack Shay, had a leisurely conversation with the judge and was done. When it was time to select the winner, Lisa did a little better and tried to stack Shay. The judge walked over to her, totally restacked him, then walked back to the center, pointed to Lisa and said "Winners!".
Lisa and I are identical twins, and at that moment we must have looked more alike than ever - both of us wide eyed and open mouthed! Neither of us had any idea this would happen as it's unusual for such a young puppy to win.Later, the judge said that Shay had great potential to be an outstanding dog, but (looking at Lisa) he said "You need to learn how to show your dog, I don't have time for this!"
'One year old Charm didn't place on the Saturday but was reserve winner on the Sunday. This was no surprise as she is from a slow maturing line and at this age has little chance against more mature looking bitches. But Charm has other talents: each day after being in the ring she was out on the coursing field, and I am pleased to say that she is the first from our family to receive a Junior Coursing title. In the photos she shows off her talent for unwavering drive and energy and you can see a big smile on her face!

This was my first attempt at coursing, and I've found there is no thrill like holding on to your hound while waiting for the words "Tally-ho" - it was like waiting for a package of TNT explode and bound across the field! I had goose bumps as I watched her stretch out and run like the wind. Her breeder and I are very, very proud of Charm, and to make the event even more special two of her siblings and her mother also obtained their JC titles that weekend. We plan to course our hounds at the National Club's specialty in May. Can't wait!'
