Boru's Arrival
by Alison Davison
The day you were due I waited for you to arrive,
I paced backwards and forwards, unable to decide -
Was I right to take you on?
Then a big, curious head appeared,
"Good God!" I gulped, "What have we here?"
As a huge, hairy hound took his place at my side.

You flopped, confused and scared onto your bed.
My heart melted and fear disappeared.
I knelt down and stroked your humongous head
And as your bright, curious eyes
Took on that special shine
I knew in an instant that you would be mine.

Grey in colour and fur soft as snow,
You were a hound that everyone would get to know.
You stole the limelight, the star of the show.
"Is that a wolfhound?" people would ask,
Amazed, as they passed.
"Yes," I would smile as I walked on by.

Now you have departed for the rainbow bridge
To play with your ancestors.
Forever in your prime,
A young lad taken so cruelly before his time.
A young lad gone but not forgotten.
